Signage light-up letters are the “face” of any store. Regular maintenance not only extends their lifespan but also keeps them looking bright and attractive. Since indoor and outdoor environments differ greatly, the focus of maintenance varies as well.
Indoor Light-Up Letters: Fine Cleaning is Key
Indoor environments are relatively gentle, so maintenance centers on daily cleaning. It is recommended to dust the letters once or twice a month using a feather duster or a soft, dry cloth to prevent dust and grease buildup. For stubborn stains, gently wipe with a soft cloth dipped in clean water or diluted mild dish soap—always disconnect the power first and avoid scratching the surface. Special attention: never use corrosive chemicals such as gasoline, alcohol, or acidic/alkaline cleaners. After cleaning, you can apply a small amount of liquid polishing wax to the surface with a soft cloth to enhance gloss and create a protective layer. Every three months, also check for deformation, damage, loose fasteners, and uneven brightness.
Outdoor Light-Up Letters: Comprehensive Protection is Essential
Outdoor light-up letters must withstand harsh conditions such as sun, rain, wind, sand, and corrosion, so maintenance needs to be more systematic. Clean them at least once a month: for acrylic letters, remove surface pollutants promptly; for stainless steel letters, inspect and apply anti-rust oil to nuts; for resin letters, gently wipe with mild cleaner to restore shine. Also, avoid leaving them illuminated 24/7 to slow down aging.
Specialized protection: waterproofing and rust prevention are top priorities. Periodically check that the sealant is intact; if moisture or damaged wiring is found, reseal the area. For rusty metal brackets, remove rust and repaint with anti-rust paint; apply anti-rust oil to hardware parts. Anti-aging is equally important: south- or west-facing signs can be equipped with translucent awnings, and applying anti-UV protective wax after cleaning helps defend against UV rays. For elevated signs, check the effectiveness of lightning protection measures, and clean the surface regularly to reduce electrostatic dust attraction.
Systematic inspections are recommended quarterly: ensure that mounting screws are tight—especially for high-altitude large letters—to eliminate falling hazards; check power supplies, transformers, and wiring every six months for aging or damage; pay daily attention to any dark, flickering, or unevenly lit strokes; and before and after severe weather (strong winds, storms), carefully inspect the firmness of all connections.
Whether indoors or outdoors, following these maintenance tips will keep your signage light-up letters looking like new for years to come, adding lasting brilliance to your storefront.
